Walking Dead episode 808, “How It’s Gotta Be,” gave us a big character death and tons of action, with an ambush that came directly from Robert Kirkman’s “All Out War” arc from the comic series. Of course, part of this episode’s battle was already covered in a different section of the TV show, plucked and pulled out for use back in Season 7’s finale, “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life” with all that went down with Sonequa Martin-Green’s Sasha.

Full spoilers for The Waking Dead continue below.

In both the comics and the TV show, Alexandria got blown to hell, turned to flames and debris by the Saviors’ grenades. One big difference however came from Carl, and the show’s decision to give him a final moment of heroism before revealing that he was a dead teen walking (slowly succumbing to a walker bite that happened previous to the episode). Because of this, things didn’t play out in quite the same way. Click through the slideshow below to find out how the TV show adapted and changed this comics storyline.

Due to the graphic nature of both The Walking Dead comics and TV show, the slideshow below contains strong language, gore and violence.

The episode even gave us a big Rick vs. Negan brawl, though it would up being a stalemate (Rick, don’t run! You have a gun and he has a bat!) and NOT the fight the two had in the comics. Still, like the comics, this Savior attack on Alexandria wasn’t the climax of the “All Out War” arc. There’s still more to come!
