Find out what surprise awaits those who find every coin.
The remake of Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 contains hidden coins not found in the original, and now their purpose has been revealed.
Warning: Major Shadow of the Colossus spoilers follow.
Since the remake of Shadow of the Colossus was released, players have wondered about the strange hidden coins scattered in ruins or Colossi arenas, and a message in the credits, “Nomad Colossus and the 79 steps to enlightenment,” led players to believe there were a total of 79 coins to find.
Working together, players discovered the coins caused a locked door outside the Shrine of Worship to glow. The door was present in the original game, but it couldn’t be unlocked. After collecting every hidden coin, however, PS4Trophies followed a hint from popular Shadow of the Colossus YouTube content creator, Nomad Colossus, to return to the door.
With all 79 coins, the door opened to reveal a room underneath the Shrine of Worship containing a weapon called the Sword of Dormin. The sword, named after the deity the player bargains with to revive Mono, boasts a large attack buff, but also reduces the player’s health regeneration.
IGN discovered the hidden coins, as well as an Easter Egg referencing The Last Guardian, before the remaster was released. If you’re interested in gathering all of the coins yourself, check out our Shadow of the Colossus hidden coins wiki page.
