Batman gets transported to feudal Japan this April, when the upcoming animated film Batman Ninja is released.
Warner Bros. and DC have announced the feature-length movie will arrive on Digital on April 24, and will be available on Blu-ray Steelbook ($29.98 USD), Blu-ray Combo Pack ($24.98 USD), and DVD ($19.98 USD) on May 8.
The story follows Batman getting transported to feudal Japan, along with his worst enemies, due to Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine. Without access to his weapons and gadgets, it’s up to Batman to rely on his intellect and allies to save the land and return to present-day Gotham City.
Batman Ninja is directed by Jumpei Mizusaki from a script by Kazuki Nakashima. Leo Chu and Eric Garcia wrote the screenplay for English-language distribution.
The voice cast features Roger Craig Smith (Batman), Tony Hale (Joker), Grey Griffin (Catwoman), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy), Fred Tatasciore (Gorilla Grodd, Deathstroke, ), Yuri Lowenthal (Robin), Adam Croasdell (Nightwing and Alfred), Will Friedle (Red Robin, Red Hood), Tom Kenny (Penguin), Eric Bauza (Two-Face).
Some of the special features include featurettes on Western tropes and archetypes, a look into the film’s Japanese character models and designs, and the Batman Ninja New York Comic Con 2017 panel.
