Pokemon products are still seeing spikes in sales, even without Pokemon Go’s enormous popularity – the factor once associated with their rise.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, The Pokemon Company went on dominate an 82% share of the trading cards market in Europe last year, bringing in €100 million out of a total of €122 million spent on strategic card games across Europe.
The sales of the trading card game are on the rise in the territory, seeing a 42% growth in the UK, all the way up to a staggering 644% growth in Italy.
Pokemon toys are faring well too, with a 54% increase in sales in the UK last year, and a 146% increase in Italy.
“2017 was another exceptional year for the Pokémon Trading Card Game,” said Simon Benton, VP of Pokemon TCG Sales Europe. “We are the number one Strategic Card Game in Europe, and the UK toy industry voted the Pokémon Trading Card Game the top Pocket Money Toy of the Year.”
The Pokemon Company recently released an art book for the Pokemon Adventures manga series to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and back in 2016, to celebrate 20 years of the trading cards, a solid gold Pikachu card worth $2,000 went on sale.
Pokemon fans get indulge in all things pocket monster-related with Amazon’s new Pokemon channel for Prime members, which currently includes seasons 2–5 and 10–16 of Pokemon the Series and Pokemon Origins. You’ll also find four movies on there, but the films available will come in and out of rotation.
