Lupita Nyong’o is set to star in a film based on the true events of the Dahomey “Amazons”, who are part of the inspiration for Black Panther‘s Dora Milaje warriors.

The Hollywood Reporter reports Nyong’o will play the daughter of fellow Oscar winner Viola Davis in the film dubbed The Woman King.

The story takes place in the Kingdom of Dahomey and is inspired by true events where the all-female military fought against neighbouring tribes and the French who were enslaving their people.

Davis will also have a hand in producing the film through her and her husband’s juVee Productions alongside Cathy Schulman’s Welle Entertainment and Maria Bello’s Jack Blue Productions.

Lupita Nyongo continues to see massive success with Black Panther surpassing Wonder Woman and Toy Story 3 at the domestic box office after having the second largest second weekend ever behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
