The ending of Far Cry 5 occurs after you eliminate all of Joseph’s lieutenants and confront the cult leader in his compound at the center of Hope County.

There are three possible endings to Far Cry 5.
This ending is what happens when you choose “Resist” when confronting The Father at his compound after liberating the other regions of Hope County.
After you decline Seed’s offer to leave peacefully, he’ll spill the two large containers of Bliss, driving everyone into a hallucinatory state.
Your allies, all under the influence of the drug, will attack you alongside The Father. Attack them and they’ll fall into “revive” mode after a few hits – revive them to get them back on their feet and on your team.
Should they go down again and be revived by Joseph, they’ll revert to his side and attack you once again. Once you’ve revived all of your comrades, attack the father and the cult leader will proselytize the end times after you defeat him.
However, as he speaks, a flash of light and deafening explosion sound as a mushroom cloud rises in the distance. Piling into a truck, you and the Sherriff and other deputies must race to reach Dutch’s bunker before being overtaken by the nuclear firestorm as other atomic blasts detonate on the horizon.
Before reaching the bunker, you car strikes a tree and you’re knocked unconsious. You fade in and out, eventually waking handcuffed to a bunk in Dutch’s bunker – though Dutch lies on the floor, dead or unconscious, and The Father stands over you. He bemoans the loss of his family, but vows in his newfound righteousness to begin a new family, with you as his first child.
It is unknown what the cause of the atomic blasts are – whether they were triggered by Joseph himself (his lieutenants did have access to decomissioned missile silos, it’s not unthinkable to imagine he may have discovered some long-forgotten warheads) or an unrelated international incident that occurred and an uncommonly coincidental time.
Most residents of Hope County are assumed dead, as none of them appear in the bunker and only a few cars were seen on the road during the final escape. Sherrif Whitehorse and Deputy Hudson were seen lying dead or severely injured in the crashed truck, but also do not appear in the bunker.
The following ending occurs if you choose “Walk Away” when confronting Joseph Seed after liberating all three regions of Hope County.
Choosing to walk away, you and Sherrif Whitehorse – as well as Pratt and a reluctant Hudson – get into a cult pickup and drive out of the compound, leaving behind the residents of Hope County you’ve befriended throughout the game.
As you drive away, Whitehorse reassures Hudson that they aren’t abandoning Hope County – rather they’re retreating to Missoula to alert the National Guard and return in force to liberate the area. However, when the Sherriff turns on the car’s radio for some driving music, Only You comes over the airwaves and your vision begins to burn red as the screen cuts to black and the credits roll.
As “Only You” was the song Jacob used to condition you into fits of violent rage, we can assume that the radio broadcast triggered your brainwashing and you attacked the other occupants in the vehicle before they could contact outside authorities.
Similarly to the beginning of Far Cry 4, there’s a hidden “ending” right at the start of the game.
Once the opening cutscenes end and the chopper lands inside the cult’s compound, follow the Marshall and Sherrif into The Father’s church. Once the angry mob exits the room, the Marshall instructs you to arrest The Father. Instead of handcuffing him as the on-screen prompt suggests, you can opt to do nothing instead.
After a few minutes, Sherriff Whitehorse will give up and the three of you abandon your mission and exit the church, leaving the cult to continue their preparation for the collapse as the credits roll.
