These are good looking machines.
If you’ve been on the fence about getting into PC gaming, I’m here to tell you now is the time to jump off that fence and dive in, headfirst. I’m not trying to ignite any PC vs. console debates here, because I enjoy them both, but since I put together my first gaming PC I’ve found myself spending an alarming amount of time playing games in front of my computer.
Right now Amazon is running a big sale today on certified refurbished HP Omen PCs and laptops. I’m a huge fan of refurbs. You save a ton of money on a piece of equipment that’s been tested and certified before sale. In some cases, these items were simply returned because the original owner just didn’t want it. It’s a fantastic way to score a great deal.
This is a stacked gaming laptop for the price. Gaming laptops are at the point now where I sometimes recommend them over desktops when people ask me “what kind of computer should I get?” This one has some pretty good specs, with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz Quad-Core processor, AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB graphics card, 1TB of storage, and a 17.3-inch display.
This one is similar to the other 17.3 inch laptop in size and processor, but it has 16GB of RAM and has a 2TB storage drive and a SATA+128 GB M.2 drive for your OS. It also has an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB graphics card, a really solid choice. But honestly, all that extra storage is going to come in handy next time there’s a Steam sale.
HP Omen 870-119 Gaming PC – $830
The main selling point for this PC is its ample storage. As someone who’s constantly cleaning out my hard drive to make room for new games, having a 2TB SATA hard drive and a 256GB SSD is something I wish I had built into my rig. It has an older NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 GPU, but as someone who’s tested a lot of PCs over the years, I can tell you that graphics card still has life left in it. You won’t be running games in 4K but for FHD, that’s a solid card, especially for the price.
As much as I love a 17-inch laptop in theory, in practice they’re usually just a little too big to carry around. For me, 15-inch is the sweet spot for laptop size. This one is pretty sweet, with a 1TB storage drive and 128GB PCIe MR OS drive, Intel i7-7700HQ CPU, and a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB graphics card.
HP Omen 870-224 Gaming PC – $600
This certified refurbished Omen has an Intel Core i5-7700 processor, 1TB hard drive, and an Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB for graphics. If you want to start gaming without breaking the bank, this is a perfect way to dip your toes in, and the 10-series cards from Nvidia have Shadowplay, so you can be like me and spam your Facebook feed with all your sweet PUBG highlights.
