FIFA 19 will run on a custom engine on Switch.
FIFA 19 will have improved graphics on Nintendo Switch despite not utilizing the Frostbite engine.
Per Dream Team, this year’s entry will look a lot better than FIFA 18 on Switch and the game will run on a custom engine. However, there’s still a chance FIFA titles on Switch might run on Frostbite in the future.
“I’m not closing the door on that possibility,” Andrei Lazarescu said, supervising producer for FIFA World Cup mode. “However we didn’t want to create a dumbed-down version of the Frostbite engine.
“The intent was never to have a one-off custom engine that were never going to touch again. It was to have that as a baseline and then build from there.”
Some of these improvements are already featured in the free World Cup update, which came out earlier this week. A few examples are face paint and the crowd wearing hats.
FIFA 19 does not yet have a release date. Be sure to check out IGN’s FIFA 18 review.
