Season 3 was ordered in May.
If you’re still reeling from The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 finale (which debuted on Hulu on July 11), you’ll be pleased to know that the dystopian series will return for Season 3 next year.
Back in May, Hulu announced that the award-winning show starring Elisabeth Moss has been renewed, although the network didn’t announce how many episodes Season 3 would be. Season 1 consisted of 10 installments, while Season 2 was bumped up to 13. In addition, the streaming service announced that The Handmaid’s Tale “doubled its audience versus Season 1” for its sophomore season and that the service had reached 20 million U.S. subscribers.
No premiere date for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 has been announced yet, but if it follows the same release pattern as its previous two seasons, it’s a safe bet to assume that the show will return in April and run through June or early July.
The Handmaid’s Tale received 20 Emmy nominations this year, just behind Game of Thrones’ 22 nominations and Westworld and Saturday Night Live’s 21 nods. For more on Hulu, check out our review of upcoming Stephen King-inspired series Castle Rock.
