Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup make a cameo.
Pokemon Go may be teasing the first generation 4 Pokemon.
An image posted to the game’s official Twitter account in honor of Pokemon Go’s second anniversary includes Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup, the starter Pokemon from the Sinnoh region originally introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
While Niantic offered no hints about when generation 4 could come to Pokemon Go, the game’s annual in-person event Pokemon Go Fest is set to take place this weekend on July 14 and 15 in Chicago, so we could even see the announcement in just a few days.
The news comes as generation 3 nears completion in Pokemon Go, with Legendary Pokemon Regice currently appearing in the game and Regirock and Registeel set to be released later this summer.
Aside from Regirock and Registeel, other generation 3 Pokemon still missing include Nincada and its evolutions, Spinda, Kecleon, Clamperl and its evolutions, Jirachi, and Deoxys. While generation 1 was finished with the introduction of Mew earlier this year, we still haven’t seen the release of Smeargle or Celebi from generation 2, though Celebi is headed to the game soon.
Last month, Pokemon Go officially announced trading alongside a new friend system, finally adding one of the most-requested features since the game’s launch.
